Palins’ Environmental Politics

September 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This past Sunday in Geneva the head of the United Nations stated that the next U.S. President must show greater leadership in tackling climate change. Makes sense. After all, the world looks to our leadership on most everything. We have had plenty of talk about climate control but little has been done to turn that talk into action with previous administrations.

The Republican nominee for President has chosen Sarah Palin as his running mate. So how does she feel about our environment and what will be her stand when it comes to climate change and reducing emmissions? Well if you look closely at her record, you can see that what the U.N. and the world is hoping for will not happen with a McCain/Palin ticket in the White House.

First, let us not forget that she chaired the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission from 2003 -2004. She recently has threatened to sue the federal government over their decision to list polar bears as a threatened species. This of course would put a halt to certain oil drilling projects that have been publicly supported by the Republican Party. Palin also opposed the listing of the beluga whale as endangered. In 2007, Palin supported the hunting of wolves by helicopter by state biologists. This to start increasing hunting revenues by boosting the population of moose.

On August 29 of THIS year Palin stated to Newsmax.com “

“A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.”

Is this the type of person we want in the White House at such a critical time our earth is facing? We have polar ice shelves collapsing everyday. Is the greed for money worth our very extinction?
